Whether you loved him or hated him, no NASCAR fan can deny that Dale was the hotest competitor on the track with only one goal in mind...
TO WIN!
Behind those mirrored sunglasses and his ruthless demeanor was a huge heart and a sentimental streak as big as Daytona's infield!
While Dale's dad, Ralph was off racing, Martha Earnhardt, the matriarch of the family, would stay home in Kannapolis and watch over their five children. "One time Ralph had went to Daytona one year and I didn't go," she said. "I was home with the kids, Dale, Randy and Danny, and they were just trying my nerves to see how bad they could really upset me. I just grabbed a belt and started swinging, I didn't care who I was going to hit. Dale hollered at Randy and Danny and said,
                                          'Boy's, y'all run. Mom's gone crazy!'"
